How to use FISHTERM’s fisheries dictionary features
1. Voice search
Search fisheries terms in both languages by just saying the word without wasting time to type-in long words. To use this feature, it is worth noting that you need to have an internet connection since the feature is powered by Google voice search. Follow the steps below to voice search terms in the app.
- On the home screen, click on the ‘search terms’ button to access the dictionary search screen.
- On the dictionary search screen, click on the microphone icon located on the top right corner of the screen. A google speech-to-text window will pop up. If you have internet connection, an audio recording image will oscillate in response to the surrounding sound. Then, go ahead to speak and the speech will be converted to text.
- Modify the text to suit the term you wish to search for and an autosuggestion list will pop up bellow the search box. Click a desired term from the suggestion list and view the transcription, definition, synonyms, plural, translation and much more information on the term on the screen that opens up.
2. Image illustration
FISHTERM’s fisheries dictionary app offers image illustrations for noun term. By a simple click, with an internet connection, you will view an illustration of the term on the app. So, make sure your internet connection is on and working to use this feature – then, follow the steps below.
- On your internet connection
- After searching for a desired term, simply scroll sown to find the button ‘view image illustration’ and click on it.
NB: You should note that the speed the image uses to load the image would depend on your internet connection. Images load in less than two seconds with a good internet connection but may take longer for slow connections.
3. List of practical usage examples
The Dictionary offers a list of list of practical usage examples drawn from international fisheries laws such as the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Laws on fishing, Decrees, etc. usage examples are located down below term definitions. Scroll down to explore a series of examples to help you understand how to use the term you searched for.
4. Automatic reader and Pronunciation
Get the FISHTERM fisheries dictionary app read for you by clicking the speaker icon located up, beside the term transcription. Listen to the right pronunciation of terms offline – no need for internet connection to use this feature.
5. Word of the day
Get to discover daily fisheries terms to increase your fisheries vocabulary. On the home screen, just click on the ‘Word of the day’ button to access the word of the day screen. The dictionary offers daily words which it choses randomly from a list of hundreds of fisheries terms.
6. History
The dictionary offers a history of previously searched terms on its history fragment. You can view your term history by tapping on the navigation drawer menu and selecting ‘history’. You will have a list which can be cleared by tapping on the ‘clear history’ button.
7. Bookmark
Bookmark your favourite terms by clicking on the star at the top right corner of the screen next to the term name. The term will then be added to your bookmark list and you could revisit your bookmark list on the bookmark fragment in the navigation drawer. All bookmarked terms have green star next to the term name.
8. Random word
Explore fisheries terms one by one randomly. To pick up a random word, on the home screen, click on the ‘random word’ button to access the random word screen.
9. Copy and share
You may want to copy inspiring definitions and share with friends or other apps. FISHTERM fisheries dictionary supports copying to and sharing with other apps. To copy text, simply tap and hold the text to select it, then tap ‘copy’ or ‘share’ in the pop up that appears. A list of options should pop up permitting you to share the information with friends or other apps. Just choose a share channel and you are done.
